Volvo XC40 Volvo's first premium compact crossover. Model presented in September 2017, and already in March 2018 received the title of European "Car of the Year". Equipped with petrol and diesel turbo engines, as well as an all-wheel drive system.

The new XC40 is also the first vehicle to be based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform developed by Volvo Cars in partnership with Geely CMA. In the future, it will be used in all cars of the 40th series, including electric vehicles. The chassis architecture is typical for class cars - a transverse engine, McPherson struts at the front, a multi-link at the rear. Standard, sport or adaptive suspension is available, front or all-wheel drive with a multi-plate clutch for connecting the rear wheels.
When designing the interior of the XC40, Volvo took a new approach to in-car storage. The space in the doors was used as efficiently as possible, there was a separate place for storing phones (including with the possibility of wireless charging), hooks for small bags and even a removable trash can between the front seats.
Safety and driver assistance systems on the Volvo XC40 include Pilot Assist, City Safety, a lane departure warning system, Cross Traffic Alert - cross-traffic alert technology with automatic braking, and visual parking assistance with all-round camera.
At the start of production, the XC40 was introduced with two 4-cylinder engines of the Drive-E family - diesel D4 (190 hp, 400 Nm) and gasoline T5 (247 hp, 350 Nm). Both are mated to an 8-speed automatic. In February 2018, Volvo introduced a new three-cylinder Drive-E engine for the XC40, which was the first three-cylinder power unit in the company's 91-year history. The 1.5-liter (156 hp, 265 Nm) petrol engine with direct fuel injection was developed by Volvo specialists on the basis of the same modular design that underlies the four-cylinder Drive-E engines. It is combined with a six-speed transmission and an eight-speed gearbox. Later, other power plants will appear, including hybrid and all-electric.
